Pool Pals

All summer long our church does a weekly family adventure. This week it was a pool party at Gpa and Gma Nydams (funny, but no Nydams were even there) with Chick-Fil-A lunch. The kids all had a blast and I a took a few fun pictures... (I didn't get any of lunch)

Here most of the kids...
I love this sequence! The kids stood in a line a dove in time after time.Jessie was everyone's favorite today! Grady was a champion jumper

I love pictures of water and think these are so cool!

Thanks Debbie for all the planning that goes into making summer fun for all the River families! We appreciate all that you do and always have a blast!

Over the Rainbow

Every few years the Nydams and the Oates make a trip to the Rainbow outlet in San Clemente. This year, as Rachel and Sarah's birthday present, I took them to lunch and then got them new rainbows and we made a girls day of it. Gracie and Zach both were at sleep overs, so it was just Hope, her friend Callia, the Nydams and I. We stopped at Ruby's for lunch and then got us some new Rainbows!!!Happy Birthday Rachel and Sarah! We love you! Hope you enjoy your new Rainbows, we know you'll get lots of use out of them :)

Happy hour, Happy Moms

Good Friends are hard to come by, but I have been blessed with these girls! For the past 4 years the 4 of us(a few others on occasion) have gotten together for happy hour on the 2nd Tuesdayof the month. We started out about 5 years ago playing Bunco together, but soon realized all we wanted to do was talk and relax together, so we switched from Bunco to happy hour.
All of us are busy moms and have little time to ourselves, so it a treat to get to sit together over some yummy food and a drink or two and catch up. Our conversations are totally random, heart felt and filled with laughter and we always leave feeling refreshed and look forward to next time.

Thanks girls! You are wonderful and I love you!!! I look forward to many more Tuesday nights :) Cheers!

T-Moms Tea

For the past 2 years I have been part of T-Moms (Trinity's Mom's of Munchkins) and have gotten to know some really great women. Trinity has a Christmas and Spring Tea and T-Moms usually tries to have the ladies from Friday mornings sit together at a table at the tea. Not all of our T-Moms ladies could be there, but we had a full table filled with great ladies! Thanks Betty for buying our tickets and sharing not only your table, but your heart with us too!

Our Mammoth get away!

It has become our yearly tradition to go to Mammoth with our friends sometime during the ski season! This was the first time for us to go without a baby or being pregnant in over 3 years! Woo-hoo! :)
The Mercers + baby

The O's

The Hekums + Alayna
UsWe left all of our brood with the Nydam clan and they had a blast (Thanks again Nydams, we Love you!) Getting away without all 5 kids takes quite a bit of planning and I must say as excited as I was to get away, I was a little sad to leave them. (at least they were in good hands) My folks came over Thursday to keep them before Rachel came to get the younger four to stay at their house Thursday night. Zach stayed the night with my parents so he could go to school on Friday for his Spring party. We drove up Thursday with Matt, Jess & Alayna.James and Matt sat in the back with Alayna and Jess in the passenger seat and I drove to eliminate getting car sick. We tried that a few times with me in the passenger seat and it didn't work too well :) The drive there was good. Alayna cried some, but it was far better than listening to our 5 scream and fight, "You're crossing the line...Mom he's touching me...Dad she's looking at me...That's my binky...I need a sippy...I have to go potty!" You get the idea, one crying baby didn't faze us :) she did really well for being in the car for 6 hours. We got there safe and sound and enjoyed some pizza and cold beer and the games began shortly after! :) It was so nice to relax and not have to worry about putting kids to bed!

Friday James, Matt and Jeff went snowmobiling and us girls hung out and relax in the condo all morning. The guys came back and we all went to go to our traditional Friday lunch spot, Hennessey's, but it was closed and a Mexican restaurant opened in it's place, it was yummy just the same. Then came the real fun...the girls went shopping while the boys headed back to the condo to hang out. While we were shopping the it began snowing and didn't stop until early Saturday morning. I think we got about a foot of fresh powder. It was so pretty to see the snow coming down and to be warm inside.Saturday was blissful, I stayed in the bed til after 9am, while the majority of the group headed to the slopes. We all just relaxed, read a bit and chatted some. Every year, Matt and I and some others end up staying back at the condo, as neither Matt nor I ski. James and Jess end up skiing all day together, as they like to take it slower than the others. So in traditional fashion, here's James and Jess' picture on the lift :) Those of us who stayed back at the condo met up with the snow-bunnies :) for lunch at the lodge. The snow play was followed by drinks and some time in the hot tub. After relaxing and cleaning up a bit, James and I went out on a date. We figured since we didn't have any kids, we might as well take advantage of our time alone :)
We headed to the Chart House, while the rest of the group ordered Thai delivery. We completed the night with a few fun games and some of Matt's yummy drinks!
Saturday night after talking to the kids, we learned that Rachel had been sick and chaos was overcoming the Nydam household quickly :(

We packed up Sunday morning, stopped for breakfast with everyone and then headed home. Before leaving the condo every year we take a group picture :) It's like prom only 15 years later...
The whole gang...Hekmans, Oates, Mercers and O's
The Chicas

The Core FourWe made it back home about 4pm, to 5 happy kids and 2 happy babysitters :) Rachel, Sarah and Mary, Jim and Chris, You are amazing! Thank you so very much for taking such good care of our kids and loving them like family! We Love you!

Every year while in Mammoth I am reminded of the true beauty of His creation. The fresh snow, the bright blue skies against the trees are so breathtaking. What an amazing God we serve! Once we come home, each year James and I talk about what good friends God had blessed us with, they are truly our family, Hekmans, Mercers and O's you are the best friends we could ask for!

Thanks Jess for letting me use your pics :) At least somebody brought their camera!

Jesus Christ Super Star

We went to the opera...hehe! We saw Jesus Christ Super Star, which is technically a "Rock Opera", but not really and opera. My sister works for a credit union in San Diego county and got free tickets to the show and offered them to us. James and I were glad to go and invited the Mercers and our friend Tiffy to go with us. We rarely get a chance to get dressed up and go out, so we got dressed up nice and planned to eat sushi in downtown San Diego.

The Oates

The Mercers, Jeff and Carmen + baby Mercer :)
The girls, Carmen, Tiff and Faithy

We enjoyed the show, but the lead was a little interesting...he was the lead in the original movie back in the 70's, so needless to say he was an older (to put it nicely) "Jesus." There were all different kinds of people there and James and I both love to people watch! Some couples were dressed in fur and suits and others in jeans, I guess it was a show that appeals to all sorts of people. :)

I love this picture of us before the show...the best part is Tiffy in the background :)

One thing we didn't think about was it being Sunday night. The show got out about 8:30 and by the time we were out and walking around downtown, most of the restaurants closed at 9 :( So our plans for sushi didn't pan out, but we ate at Panera and enjoyed it just the same ;)

Thanks Heather for the tickets, we had a great time! Thanks Mercers and Tiff for coming with us!

Play Date

Today we had Elisa and Gianna Lopez over for a play date. The kids had a picnic lunch outside and Wendy and I ate a salad on the swing as we chatted, it was such a beautiful day and everyone played so nicely. The girls played dress-up and the moms got to play too!!!

Halloween with the Hek-ums

Last night we had the Hekmans (or Hek-ums as our kids call them) over for dinner and trick-or-treating. It turned out to be a really fun night. I made some some cute Halloween treats and we ate chili on the back patio, before taking the kids up our street to trick-or treat!

Here's our graveyard dip
I saw these on-line and thought they were so cute...

Nick and Jenna's Wedding

I have been anxiously awaiting this wedding! :) Seeing Jenna grow up and then meet Nick, them fall in love and see that love blossom has been amazing! Plus, it was fun to get dressed up, leave the kids with James parents and head to the beach. The ceremony was beautiful and the reception was allot of fun. We sat with the Mercers, Kowes, Megan and Teri. Jim, James and Jeff had their fair share of drinks and were a little silly, but it was fun. We took pictures of everyone at our table...
